In order to optimize the resource distribution of our city further , accelerate implementing the strategy of " flourish by business and tourism f ", and promote the development of ocean and travel industry in a healthy way and the progress of society in an all-round way, Taishan municipal Party committee and the municipal government submitted to people's government in the province for approval, established Chuandao town formally on December 15 , 2003. It is according to the spirit of the Central Party Committee and the State Council reforming local party and government administrative structure , the work arrangements and demand of Provincial Party committee and provincial government adjusting zoning of villages and towns of our province . Chuandao town people's government has jurisdiction over two islands and 3 committees in the village now. The whole area is 268.7 sq. km., total population is 37,557.
Chuandao town lies in the south of Guangdong Province. It is 87 nautical miles and 58 nautical miles away from Hong Kong and Macao, respectively to the east; 12 nautical miles away from international navigational routes to the south. There are many scenic spots and historical sites on the island such as Lechuan Buddha, and the church of St. Francis Xavier ,the first missionary who came from western country to China. The animals and plants in the island include the national important protective animals ¨Cmacaque, the diamond of the plant kingdom ¨Cbamboo cypress, and so on.
Tourism and marine economy is the pillar industry in Chuandao town. At present, the area of tourism development is 3.5 sq. km., every construction investment is over 2 billion yuan, The resort is been well equipped .It has all kinds of amusement establishments such as motor-speed boat ,water electric bicycle ,banana Boat ,water bed ,raft ,and surfboard ect .
Chuandao Island has enormous marine potentiality to be exploited .There are more than 10,000 hectares harbours and shallow sea area suitable for sea-farming, and more than 3000 hectares mud flat that can be developed to cultivate .
